If Only It Were Always Like This

I love that Hopper wants to read to his sister. OMG, I feel successful.

And I love that he wants to cuddle his sister (although this snap reminds me of the famous John and Yoko Rolling Stone cover, which is kind of a weird association...).

And I would love this photo most of all, if it weren't for that frikkin binky. How I've come to loath the binky. Any tips on how I can pitch it out the window of a moving car and not permanently damage my relationship with my son? Let's hear 'em!

To the Bitch I Passed on the Street
Oh, the warm fuzzies of the inauguration certainly didn't last long. Excuse me while I use this space - it is mine after all - to vent.
To the lady I passed on an icy sidewalk today, a sidewalk with only a single 8 inch lane of cleared snow; you with your two free arms and me with a fit-pitching 3 yr old thrown over my right shoulder like a sack of potatoes, and a car seat carrying a 16lb infant cradled in my left arm. To you, when you so graciously took what must have been a truly harrowing ONE step out of the way - what with your free hands and all - I say, I am just so so so sorry. For when I passed and you felt compelled to yell back at me "You're WELCOME!", I should have dropped my tantrumming toddler, left him to run into the busy street, and thrown my baby in her car seat into the snowbank so that I could race back to you and kiss your feet in thanks for your extreme effort. How insensitive of me to not recognize how you were struggling. The difficulty of your actions, my God. You! You are truly a hero. A fine example of kindness and sisterhood.

Things I've Learned in 3 days
In the 3 days my son has been home with me instead of in daycare, I've learned the following (sometimes obvious) lessons:
1) Don't expect your toddler to do you a favour by getting into your car parked on a busy street while you try to load an infant in a car seat. Rather, expect that toddler to book it down said busy street causing you a mild heart attack.
2) Car seat must be working properly. (It's not.)
3) Cable should be working properly. (It's not.)
4) Don't let your kid jump on bed or they are likely to fall and hit their cheek squarely on sharp corner of headboard.
5) Once your child has sampled the fruity goodness of a TUMS, he will throw a fit unless he is able to eat the whole bottle. (I, um, have to say no, sweety. Sorry.)
6) Kashi all-natural granola bars will not pass as treats - even with dark chocolate and sweet cherry bits.
7) Just because it looks like your child has put on his own pull-up does not mean he did it correctly and it is likely that pee will find the one or two exits left open by poorly put on pull-up. That pee will make it to your lap, the floor, socks, carpet - whathaveyou.
8) All of this will be discovered the day you need to get work done.
9) Do not placate your child by letting him put stickers on your laptop, as a means of 'keeping him involved' while you try to use it. There is no such thing as ONE sticker.
It is only 3:45. How much more do I have to learn today?

Happy New Year Everyone
A little belated, but sincere all the same. I hope this year brings you happiness and success, however you define it.
As of tomorrow, my kids are home with me full time (almost) so this year, for me, will bring a lot of changes...and I couldn't be looking forward to it more!
I'm upping my mothering game, will keep you posted....gah!
